Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I'm still accessing the internet from the library, so even though we celebrated St. Patrick's Day, I don't have any pictures to put on here.

We all wore green.

I reminded the children of the history of St. Patrick.

We had shepherd's pie for lunch.

We made shamrocks and wrote blessings on them.

And for you:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Until next time...

overprotected, isolated, non-socializing children

Ever wondered what those kind of children look like? I'll show you:

These pictures have been taken over the last few years. They have been socializing with children and adults alike, from all parts of the country. We have taken trips (more than I took as a child), met new friends, and seen a lot of things. They have friends from Texas to Maryland and several points in between. They have seen several zoos (we love them :) ), a few museums, and some historical sites. And we would like to see many more.

So when people say that homeschooled children are overprotected, isolated, or non-socialized, they don't know what they are talking about.

Until next time...

another birthday so soon?!

My oldest son and my 3rd daughter have birthdays very close to each other 10 days apart (on leap years 11 days apart). My son's is the 19th of Feb. and my daughter's is the 1st of March. We did celebrate on her birthday, I'm just late getting the post up.

The birthday girl with some of her gifts.

The cake was delicious. It was chocolate cake, a layer of fudge marble ice cream, then whipped topping, crushed oreos, and a few cherries. It was frozen until we were ready to eat it. Yummy!!

Yes, ALL my girls love horses.

Some of the treats from her birthday bag.

The happy birthday girl! She got all dressed up for her party. Our friend's daughter even painted her fingernails to match her dress. The first dress she had on was hot pink and black striped; her nails were pink with black stripes. You can see that in the picture of her holding the horse if you look closely enough. It was very cute; but then she went and changed her dress. :) Oh well. She loves to change clothes about a dozen times a day. Very girly. :)

We are very blessed to have this darling in our family. She is so sweet and also a big helper. She will volunteer to help wash dishes or other chores. She loves to play house with her siblings and is a great big sister to the little ones.

Until next time...

how to spend less than $10 on a prom dress

Yes, you read that right.

My friend's daughter just showed us her prom dress. The one she spent less than $10 on.

She found a couple of dresses at a thrift store, liked part of one, and part of another, put them together and - voila!

The wrap was some material she found at Wal-Mart; $3 for the rest of the bolt, which was at least a couple of yards. She also made the sleeves out of that.

So there it is - the prom dress for less than $10. Custom made, too!

(disclaimer, lest I get some blasting comments after some previous posts I've written: Our family doesn't agree with attending dances, but I just wanted to share how a young person could be thrifty and still look nice.)

Until next time...

a gardener I'm not

I am not a gardener. Not really.

I would love to have a garden. Vegetable and flowers both.

Roses are my favorite. I would absolutely LOVE to have a rose garden.

If you've been reading my blog for very long you may remember that we tried trees a couple of years ago. Hmm...not a very successful venture. We tried some berries at the same time. I think we got one berry off of 9 plants. :)

When I see the daffodils blooming I get excited.

I get seed catalogs in the mail and want to order seeds and plants. I mentally design a garden in my mind.

I walked into Kroger the other day and passed through the flowers section. Mmmm they smelled soooooo good!

Is it spring yet?

Until next time...
