It pays to exercise!!  No kidding...Saturday on my way into the gym I found a quarter and a penny on the ground. lol

I went over to the library after my workout and they were cleaning out their lost and found...I walked out with a ladies wallet and a zipper pouch of school supplies.

I dropped my hubby off at work and went to Kroger to pick up a few things.  I don't like to shop on an empty stomach and I had not eaten breakfast so I stopped by Taco Bell to buy something.  I had such a loooooonnnngg wait for ONE item that they GAVE me a drink and two of those cinnabon cheesecake balls (wow - worth the wait!).

When I got home I discovered that our neighbors had give us a bouncy toy for the baby.  Since I already had a girl one and this one was neutral I passed that blessing on to a friend who has a boy.

I wasn't home very long and another friend stopped by with a gallon of homemade root beer.  He was making sure of his recipe because his mom had asked him to make if for their church festival on Sunday and that was left over.  The kids loved it.  I'm not a root beer fan, but they all love it so that was nice.

Yesterday on the way home from church I stopped by yet another friend's house and she gave us lots of bread...nice expensive healthy bread.  Someone gave them about 20 trays - like the ones you see the bread trucks stacking bread on - full of bread.

So I guess you could say I had a pretty good weekend. :)

how to spend less than $10 on a prom dress

Yes, you read that right.

My friend's daughter just showed us her prom dress. The one she spent less than $10 on.

She found a couple of dresses at a thrift store, liked part of one, and part of another, put them together and - voila!


The wrap was some material she found at Wal-Mart; $3 for the rest of the bolt, which was at least a couple of yards. She also made the sleeves out of that.


So there it is - the prom dress for less than $10. Custom made, too!

(disclaimer, lest I get some blasting comments after some previous posts I've written: Our family doesn't agree with attending dances, but I just wanted to share how a young person could be thrifty and still look nice.)

new friends, new adventures

It's funny. We've lived in east TN for 12 years and put off going to some places. It took a visiting family to get us to the Museum of Appalachia.

It's an interesting place to visit. And there is one price for a family with children ages up to 12. (Which we still have until December when our oldest will be 13). Our new friends also have children 12 and under. So we got a great price on admission.

Speaking of our new friends, they are in the picture above (except the dad who took the picture). They have seven children. You can pick them out because all of mine had on teal.

Don't you just love meeting new people and knowing that they will become friends?

Fall Festival

Some friends hosted a Fall Festival yesterday. It wasn't the "official" name, but let's call it that. :)

Working the two-man saw was the host, on the far side, and his brother.

Ladies were not exempt from trying either. Sisters-in-law try their hand at it. They did pretty good, too. :)

Can you believe they made homemade ice cream? It's fall, people! Seriously, though, they worked hard and it was yuuu-mmmy!

Do you notice how little girls copy the older ones and women? Here's our A.M. watching closely to see if she's sitting and holding her baby right. So cute!

Later in the evening we had a devotion, with singing.

NO we didn't give the kids COFFEE!! The definitely don't need it! They heated up some apple cider that comes from a local "pick your own fruit" place; The Fruit and Berry Patch. They have some really good fresh apple cider.
