placemats
Chaotic craftiness
My mom had the idea of the kids, well actually all of us, making placemats for Christmas dinner. We used card stock, old Christmas cards, markers, ribbon, glue, and her handy-dandy laminating machine to create "masterpieces".
Everyone got to design their own placemat and when they were finished Ma-maw laminated them. They are now awaiting Christmas dinner.
Does anyone else have craft they will do with their children for Christmas or even Thanksgiving?
What's that? Is the baby here? Don't ask.
Until next time...

while I'm waiting
So while I'm waiting the arrival of our latest blessing, I'm trying to catch up on some sewing that I've put off for a while. The girls need some dresses, so I'm working on those. One of my aunts blessed me with a lot of material. Very large pieces that are enough for a couple of the girls to have matching dresses.
Some things I finished...
The little girls needed nightgowns. The pink material was with the material my aunt gave me. I found the blue at Wal-Mart for only $1.50 a yard (another blessing with our financially tight situation).
Some bibs that I have been needing to make for several months now. :)

And some skirts that I'll need after the baby is born.
I also made some skirt and vest combos for the older girls, but I don't have a picture of them. A lady in NM gave me a whole bolt of lightweight denim right before we left. :) So even in the midst of hard times we've been blessed.

gingerbread houses and calendars
We've been crafty lately...the good kind.
We found a gingerbread house kit on sale for $5 at Sam's Club this weekend. So the kids constructed it yesterday...

...and ate it. Yum! The finished product

Also, this weekend we went to the Kid's Workshop at Home Depot. It's the first Saturday of each month if you want to check out the one in your area. The kids get a child-size orange work apron and each time they get a pin with a picture of the project on it. One girl there had her apron full! My kids only have two, but they now have the goal of filling up their aprons!

Sorry for the blur, something was on my lens. Umm...not sure who's these are...they are creative.

woodworking
My husband's latest project. A box for an airbrush artist in Pigeon Forge. I'm not sure exactly how he's going to use it, but this is what he ordered.
Another view from the top...kinda.
A close-up of one of the feet...and the seat in my husband's car. :)Anyway, no particular reason for this post. Just wanted to share.

gift ideas
This year I'm thinking of giving homemade gifts.
If you are family stop reading this right now. Did you hear me? Close this page and don't read this post if you know what's good for you. You'll get coal in your stockings and a bundle of switches under the tree if you read one more word.
Now, that my family has left and isn't reading this anymore...hopefully.

I found some great gift ideas over here and here.
(And if some sneaky relative is still reading this you're ruining your surprise)!

I'm curious...if one of you wanted to buy one of these how much do you think they should be? I'm thinking of selling them at a local flea market. It's a good gift idea for those that aren't too crafty, or when someone needs a quick last minute gift. So give me your opinion.

on the crafty side
Do your kids get bored with a day off from school and it's too cold to play outside for long? Do they help with making Thanksgiving dinner? If not, what do they do to keep busy?
I found a few craft ideas that I wanted to try out on my kids this year. Then I thought I'd share them with you. I'll put a picture up, then put the link that will take you to the instructions.
Instructions for this Thankful Garland can be found here.
Pipe cleaner turkey.

Teepee centerpiece. My kids will go crazy for these.

For those little ones that can't do the crafts or those that just don't want to, here is a link to some coloring pages that might tempt them.
When you follow those links you'll find more crafts on that site. Have fun!
And you adults, let the kid inside of you out for a while. I fully intend to make my own craft. You do it, too!
