Dessert Friday - Easy Apple Dumplings

Dessert Friday and Chocolate Friday are hosted by Lisa at Stop and Smell the Chocolates. And today she is having a great giveaway for Father's Day! See's Candies. Yum. So go see her and get in on the giveaway, PLUS get more recipes. And link up one of yours. This Friday is for any dessert, not just chocolate. So find a non-chocolate dessert (if that's possible - just kidding!) and link up at her site.

And here's my non-chocolate dessert recipe for this Friday.

Easy Apple Dumplings

2 cans crescent dinner rolls
2 Granny Smith or tart apples
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
2 sticks butter
1 can Mountain Dew

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Peel and cut apples into 1/8ths.
Open and separate crescent rolls.
Wrap each 1/8th apple slice with a crescent roll - put the apple at the large end of the roll and roll up.
Place in glass 9x13 glass pan.
Melt butter and mix with sugar and cinnamon, pour over the dumplings.
Pour whole can of Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan.
Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes or until golden brown.
Most of the juice should be gone. Don't use a metal pan if possible.

Sorry there's no picture, but these don't stick around long enough to grab the camera. And, if you don't like Mountain Dew, don't worry that it will taste like it; it doesn't. Super yummy!

Until next time...

Oh, I've made these quite a few times and there are NEVER leftovers!!! The only things I do differently are to use about 8 oz of the soda (and sometimes, I just use the off-brand of Mt. Dew) and I sprinkle the cinnamon over top of the dumplings (rather than mixing them in with the sugar and butter).

Man oh man, are these things good -- especially if you serve it a la mode!
